After a long week of rain and snow, the weekend was finally beautiful and bright but very brisk. I was fooled by the weather and had gone out under the wrong impression of warm weather. I had meant to take Ker Ai, my dog, for a walk around town. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring along a coat for him and he started to shiver. I walked him around Union Square to see other dogs and visited Petco, where Banana Joe was in town!

Blood Orange Juice and Apple Bits Green Tea
It’s another cold night in New York. What started a warm 40 degree day dipped down to the teens as sun hovered over the horizon and beyond. As much as I love winter, these are days where I wish it were spring, minus the allergies.

Chocolate Strawberry Cupcake for Two
As the month of February and Valentine’s Day fast approaches, I started to think about what to do for a special dinner. Last year, I made chocolate fondue with strawberries for dessert. It was a small enough batch for two people without leftover ingredients so I needed something similar without making a huge batch that would require days of eating.

9 Places I Tried in 2013
At the beginning of the year, I made a list of 13 restaurants I needed to try this year. I find making these lists really help me to explore different areas of New York. Unfortunately, I only made it through 9 places but they were all very good places, worth checking out.

Baking As A Form of Therapy
My mother used to tell me that cooking isn’t a man or a woman’s job. It’s a person’s job. It is in everyone’s personal interest to learn to cook and feed oneself and not be dependent on going to the restaurant or fast food (in truth, my mother always had the fear that someone would spit on her food ordered at the restaurant).

A Midsummer’s Night at the Greenmarket
It hasn’t quite been midsummer yet but the sweltering slosh of heat and humidity awashes the city, making fatigue and temper run high. Too hot to hang out at crowded event, too humid for outdoor bars. But I couldn’t resist the ticket to attend the Greenmarket’s free Night Market in Union Square. I found the event by chance when I was perusing through the list of Eventbrite recommendation.

Food I couldn’t live without
When I joked to my boyfriend that he may be allergic to dairy, the Italian in him vehemently protested. “Life is not worth living without cheese,” he bemoaned dramatically.
It had me thinking, what would be the food I couldn’t live without?
I love food but I have 2 allergies that prevent me from eating everything under the sun.

Chili Basil Shrimp
I’ve run out of food in my refrigerator! All I had was a measly bag of shrimp, some fish, and chicken, and some really bad vegetables. I went to my balcony and saw basil and researched some idea and found a simple enough recipe.

Garlic Fried Rice
I spent this past Independence Day having All You Can Eat BBQ at this Japanese restaurant, Gyu Kaku. The first time I dined this restaurant was with my coworkers at A&E and I remember thinking it was very expensive. But recently, I stopped by with a friend after a movie and they have happy hour from noon to 5. Amazing!

Basil Tofu Cotta with Strawberry
With my boyfriend’s mother around, I’ve been eating more creamy food and sometimes enjoying it and other times, not so much. I’ve found that I like many of the Italian desserts if they are made right, such as tiramisu, bomboloni, and panna cotta.
