Many moons ago, for Memorial Day, my friends and I used to take a trip up to Bear Mountain to have a barbecue. We’d pack up food, drinks, and our dogs and take the hour long trek up away from the busy city life.

Astoria has a growing Japanese population that ramen houses are popping up alongside sushi restaurants. And they aren’t those generic half Chinese/Mexican food type of chain restaurants. They are quite decent and innovative with their flavors and dishes.

Truffle Risotto on a Cold February Day
After a long week of rain and snow, the weekend was finally beautiful and bright but very brisk. I was fooled by the weather and had gone out under the wrong impression of warm weather. I had meant to take Ker Ai, my dog, for a walk around town. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring along a coat for him and he started to shiver. I walked him around Union Square to see other dogs and visited Petco, where Banana Joe was in town!
